I’m a documentary photographer working across the North, drawn to people, places, and the quieter stories that sit between them.

My work is rooted in observation rather than direction. I’m interested in how people live, work, care for one another, and shape the places they belong to — often without attention or recognition. Much of what I photograph exists in the everyday: the ordinary moments that, when looked at closely, say something much bigger about identity, resilience, and place.

Still Northern grew from a need to slow down and pay attention. It’s an ongoing body of work made up of personal and collaborative projects that explore life across the North through a documentary lens. Each project sits within the same values — care, honesty, and respect — but focuses on different aspects of lived experience.

One of these projects is People Who Make The North, which centres on individuals, communities, and organisations whose work helps hold places together. Many of these stories are community-led and non-profit, created to acknowledge labour that is often unseen and undervalued.

Alongside this personal work, I also take on a limited number of commissioned projects each year. These commissions follow the same approach — working collaboratively, telling honest stories, and creating work that reflects people as they are rather than how they are expected to be seen. Commissioned work helps fund the time, travel, and space needed to continue Still Northern sustainably.

Everything here is made with intention. Time is taken. Relationships matter. Stories are approached with care.

Still Northern is not about spectacle.
